Guys, I just had a mind-blowing theory of why Google pulled back the dark mode in Android Messages in Android (reference: https://www.xda-developers.com/android-messages-redesign-dark-mode/

[Update: Reverted] Android Messages’ new Material Theme design …)!!

My theory:

They tested whether the dark mode in Messages works stable enough on all current handsets, so they have a groundwork for future dark modes in OTHER Google apps that got a super similar redesign (Google Pay, Google News, Google Home etc.).

Conclusion: That means they are laying the groundwork for a future with native dark mode in Android! That would also explain why they went almost full white in Android Pie.
